AWMGS raise the profile of the QuicDNA Clinical Trial as Wales play South Africa
On Saturday 19th August, Colleagues at the All Wales Medical Genomics Service were invited to the Summer Internationals Rugby at Principality Stadium in Cardiff. Where they spent the duration of the match fundraising on behalf of Craig Maxwell and the QuicDNA Clinical Trial, which aims to revolutionise the diagnosis of lung cancer in Wales.
Craig, who is current Chief Commercial Officer for Six Nations Rugby, has been diagnosed with a rare form of lung cancer, which he’s since been told is now incurable. Craig hopes that by raising the profile of projects such as this, he may be able to improve diagnosis and subsequent treatment for others also living with the illness.
The QuicDNA Liquid Biopsy clinical trial is made possible through the All-Wales Medical Genomics Service (AWMGS), Illumina Technology, Life Sciences Hub Wales, and multiple partner organisations. Liquid biopsy as a tool in genomic medicine is expected to become a pivotal part of healthcare and provide a better understanding of illnesses, improve patient outcomes and transform lives.
