We would like to inform you of a temporary change to the FLT3-TKD testing pathway.
FLT3-TKD testing will continue to be analysed in house (via NGS). Additionally, we will offer a send out service to an external laboratory with a rapid TAT. This is an interim measure while we work towards implementing a rapid in-house FLT3-TKD service.
To support timely processing and minimise delays, we require an additional sample in EDTA that we can send directly to the external laboratory. Please note, if this is not received, extraction will be performed in house which may negatively impact the turnaround time*.
Sample Requirements:
Cytogenetics
Bone Marrow/Peripheral Blood (Bone marrow is preferred). If possible, send a minimum of 3mL in sterile transport medium (supplied by the laboratory) or in a lithium heparin blood tube.
Molecular Testing
3ml Bone Marrow/Peripheral Blood (Bone marrow is preferred) in EDTA for in-house molecular analysis.
Plus, an additional 2ml (minimum) Bone Marrow/Peripheral Blood (Bone marrow is preferred) in EDTA for urgent FLT3-TKD send out testing.
Please note:
*If only one tube is received for molecular testing, extraction will be performed in house which may increase turnaround times by approximately 24–48 hours
If possible, samples should arrive at AWMGS Monday to Thursday (before 12pm)to allow onward referral within the same day
Samples received after 12pm Thursday will be held until the following week for onward referral, which will impact turnaround times.
No additional request form is required as part of this service update
