All Wales Medical Genomics Service Laboratory Information Management System update.
Dear All Wales Medical Genomics Service Users,
We are entering the final stages of validation and implementation of the Genetic Laboratory Information Management System (GLIMS). This is essential for us as it provides a modern, sustainable, interoperable and easily accessible rapid reporting digital platform that will allow clinicians to significantly improve the quality and efficiency of care provided to patients. We are anticipating that we will go live at the end of March 2026.
During this critical period, we do not anticipate that there will be a clinically significant impact on the delivery of our routine services, however there may be delays in responding to non-urgent queries about our routine services. Please be assured that patient safety remains our highest priority, and we will continue to prioritise urgent and prenatal referrals and queries without compromise. We anticipate that these delays could possibly last for approximately 2-3 months during the go live period, and the post go live ‘bedding in’ period when developmental work may be slightly delayed, as we transition to the new system and consolidate its usage in our business-as-usual operations.
We will continue to actively monitor the situation and post updates to our website: www.medicalgenomicswales.co.uk. We may also issue further communications via email or letter to you directly if there are any significant updates which we believe may impact on the services we provide to you and your patients.
As a service the implementation of GLIMS is our focussed priority, after the delivery of our current diagnostic services. With that in mind during the next few months, where necessary, we will be adopting a risk-based approach in consultation with patient facing clinical services to determine whether we will need to slow down or temporarily pause other developmental work. This approach will ensure we are able to deliver GLIMS and maintain patient safety and diagnostic output with the minimum of disruption to existing services.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we complete this essential upgrade. Should you have any urgent concerns, please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
This represents a significant milestone in improving the efficiency and quality of our service for our patients and their families and we thank you for your continued support and partnership working, to ensure that patient outcomes are always our collective priority.
