Genomic test results have become an integral part of decision-making process about treatment and management plans for many patients. Mainstreaming of genomic testing refers to diagnostic testing being initiated by non-genetics healthcare professionals. This approach can potentially reduce the time it takes to reach a diagnosis for some patients.
The All Wales Medical Genomics team are working to support mainstream clinicians in offering genomic testing at the point of care by offering education about genomic testing, including assessing the criteria for testing and consenting patients for testing.
